Ranchi, Jan 16. Organised under the banner of Rashtriya Adivasi Samaj Sarna Dharma Raksha Abhiyan, tribals marked their protest against the Jharkhand government’s move to regularise the service of staff appointed on a contract basis.

They took out a protest march from Jaipal Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk in the heart of the Jharkhand capital and expressed their ire against the government move. They also burnt an effigy of the government at Albert Ekka Chowk and threatened dire consequences in case of regularisation of services of any contract staff.

The government had started the process in the wake of the Supreme Court and High Court direction. The court had taken strong exception to the practice of keeping government staff for regular nature of job on a contract basis and ordered them to think about their service regularisation.

Tribals are not in favour of this order as according to the majority of those who got jobs on a contract basis are non-tribal outsiders and they got entry into the government department for having a connection with the officers of the department.

According to them, the reservation rule was not followed during contract appointments and thus regularising service of backdoor entrants is an injustice to poor tribes.

They were demanding appointments on backlog vacancies instead of regularisation of services of contract workers.

Notably, Bandhan Tigga led this agitation. People from many organizations including the Raji Padha Sarna Samiti, the Kendriya Sarna Samiti, the Jharkhand Adivasi United Front, and the Kendriya Sarna Sangharsh Samiti participated in the programme.
