Dhanbad, Oct 30: Three youths while riding bikes, were seriously injured when a truck hit them from behind on the Pradhankhanta rail overbridge on Govindpur – Sindri main road under Baliapur police station, around 12 km away from district headquarters on Saturday morning. One of them died on the way to hospital.
The deceased was identified as Bharat Kumbhakar (24) of Korahir village of Sindurpur Panchayat in Baliapur block. The doctor said that the condition of two other injured youths (identified as Vijay Kumbhakar and Dipak Kumbhakar of the same Korahir village) is also critical.
Before the crowd assembled at the accident spot, the driver and his assistant managed to escape from the site.
Protesting the incident, the angered villagers completely paralyzed the traffic movement on Govindpur- Sindri road by blocking the over-bridge for more than five hours. They were demanding a compensation of Rs. 30 Lakh to each victim from the truck owner. They also demanded a job in ACC cement factory for the deceased victim’s family members. The blockade continued till the story was being written.
Baliapur police station officer in-charge, Sweta Kumari, said that the accident took place around 9 a.m. The youths were returning on a single vehicle to their village in Baliapur from Pradhankhanta side when a speeding truck hit them from the rear end at the overbridge. The truck was going to Sindri to load cement.
The OC, Sweta Kumari, reached the spot of the accident and sent the injured boys for treatment at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH). The doctors at the hospital declared Bharat Kumbhakar as brought dead.
