Washington: US President Donald Trump warned at an election rally in Kansas that if Democrats win in the United States, conditions similar to the violent protests and unrest now seen in France could emerge here, urging voters to back the Republican Party.
Trump Cites France’s Inflation, Protests and Migration Crisis
Referring to reports from NBC News and other media, Trump pointed to rising inflation, protests and a migration-related crisis in France. Speaking in support of the Republican Senate candidate in Kansas, he said France, once a great country, had been taken over by migrants, jihadists and communists, and had been looted and burned. He blamed large-scale immigration for the violence and alleged that radical Democrats want to bring the same atmosphere to America.
“Imagine I Am on the Ballot”
Ahead of the midterm elections, Trump asked his supporters to vote as though he himself were on the ballot. He said he was making the appeal because Republican turnout is often lower in non-presidential elections.
Critics Say Foreign Events Being Exaggerated
Trump’s critics and opposition parties say he is exaggerating foreign developments to divert attention from domestic issues and low approval ratings.
