Jamshedpur, Sept 14: A team of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) successfully summited Kang Yatse-1 (6401m) adding yet another feather to its cap.
Kang Yatse-1, a formidable peak nestled in the awe-inspiring Himalayan region, is the highest and most elegant peak in the Markha Valley in Ladakh- a cold desert in India.
This was the first time a TSAF organised a mountaineering expedition here. Earlier, a few successful expeditions have been conducted by other teams from India and abroad.
The expedition was started on August 28 from Leh. The team reached base camp at the height of 5100m on September 2 via camps at Sara, Markha and Thankgchutse.
Acclimatization and technical training were done at the base camp for 2 days along with a load ferry to Camp-1 (5450m).
The team reached summit camp at 5850m on September 7 and started for the summit push in the night. On September 8 morning, the team was successfully able to reach the summit at 6401m. After that descent was started and all the members reached Leh by September 10.
All the members departed from Leh on September 11 and reached their respective locations by September 12.
The expedition was meticulously planned and executed under the leadership of Mohan Rawat, senior instructor at TSAF who played a pivotal role in this awe-inspiring feat and was the leader of the expedition.
He was supported by Govind Singh, Randeb Singh, Ashish Saxena and Renu Sharma from TSAF.
The team also had the support of Ladakh Mountaineering Guides Association (LMGA) guides – Skalzang Rigzin, Funsok Jigmet and Tenzin.
The team comprised dedicated and experienced climbers demonstrating exceptional skill, unwavering determination, and remarkable teamwork throughout their arduous journey.
The team faced challenges of high altitude, low oxygen, extreme cold and high wind conditions.
Seven members out of the team of 16 members were able to summit the peak successfully.
