Two drown in Deoghar while bathing in Sikatiya Baraj

Deoghar, June 9: Two youths drowned in the Sikatiya Baraj, under the Sarath police station of Deoghar district on Thursday while talking a bath. The deceased have been identified as Manish Yadav and Ujjwal Kumar Awanish, residents of Thanepur near Sahara under Taljhari police station of Dumka district.

The deceased were notably first cousins, while they were both the only sons of their respective parents. As per sources, fathers of the deceased are brothers.

Manish and Ujjwal had come to Chitra to visit Yagy event on Wednesday and stayed at their cousin’s house at night. While returning to their native place in Thane with their other cousins, the brothers decided to take a bath in the Sikatiya.

After the incident, members of the family were contacted by other cousins. Soon the local administration received news and came into action. The body one of the deceased had already started to float and the body could be recovered with the help of locals present.

Local administration later contacted the NDRF team and a group of men were deployed to the spot for rescue. Circle officer Vaibhav Kumar and in-charge of Sarath police Chandan Pandey later recovered the body of the second victim with the help of local fishermen.
