Dhanbad, June 2: Relatives of a patient beat up the medical workers and police at Asarfi Hospital near Birsa Munda Park under the Dhanbad Sadar police station on Thursday, alleging carelessness in treatment.

When the police arrived to control the rude attendants, they assaulted them and tore off their police uniforms. Two people were detained on the spot.

The hospital administration has filed an FIR in Sadar police station against the patient’s father and ten unidentified people for causing a scene and assaulting hospital workers. The incident was captured on the hospital’s CCTV cameras.

DSP (Law and Order) Arvind Kumar Sinha, who arrived on the scene after receiving information, claimed that two people had been arrested and that the rest accused will be captured after filing an FIR.

Swati Sinha, the General Manager (GM) of Asarfi Hospital’s operations, told the media that the patient’s father, Mantu Pandey, and his associates stormed the hospital twice. They visited the first time at about 6.30 a.m. and assaulted personnel and nurses, accusing them of incompetence in treatment. They started causing a ruckus again at 10 a.m. When the police were alerted, they retaliated by assaulting them and ripping off a police officer’s nameplate.

DSP Arvind Kumar Sinha alerted Sadar police station officer in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh, who went to the hospital and arrested the two assaulters.

“Three days ago, a girl (2 years 11 months) was admitted to the hospital’s ICU. She had a breathing problem and was supposed to be discharged today, as she has fully healed. But before she was discharged, her father Mantu Pandey caused a ruckus and assaulted hospital employees and police officers,” claimed Swati Sinha, the hospital’s GM of operations.

In this regard, she has filed a police report against Mantu Pandey and his ten associates.

On the other hand, Mantu Pandey, the patient’s father, claimed that the hospital was negligent in its treatment and that he would file a complaint with the police and the civil surgeon.
