Ranchi, Feb.13: Sindri MLA Indrajeet Mahto’s elder son, Vivek Kumar Mahto (25), committed suicide in a hostel room at a polytechnic college in Silli.

Ajsu MLA Lambodar Mahto confirmed the incident saying he came to know about the incident around 10am.

“He was preparing for GATE after his B.Tech. He was staying in Delhi and had come to Silli,” Mahto said confirming the incident.

Asked whether any suicide note was recovered, he said ‘no’ but at the same time confirmed the matter as case of suicide saying ‘he was suffering from depression and under treatment of a Medica doctor.’

Though an autopsy report is yet to come from the RIMS, it is being suspected either he consumed poison or sleeping pills.

A source close to Mahto throwing light on the reason behind the depression said: “His father is under treatment for the last two years in Hyderabad after his lungs got damaged during Covid.”

In another incident of suicide, a 17-year girl, Puja Kerketta, hanged herself from a tree at Ghuthia forest close to Saudag under Tupudana police station. Though no suicide note was recovered, primary investigation suggested that the reason behind the suicide is her soured relationship with her boyfriend.
