Ranchi, July 28: Jharkhand High Court advocate Renuka Trivedi and one of her colleagues sustained injuries after she lost control over her scooter frightened with the siren of an over-speeding minister’s escort vehicle today.
The incident took place when she was going to the Jharkhand High Court and the minister’s motorcade was approaching the Vidhan Sabha to attend the assembly’s monsoon session scheduled from 11am.
Advocate Trivedi and her colleague riding the same scooter collided with a divider near Paras Hospital under Dhurwa police station area and later admitted there for treatment.
Former Advocate General Ajit Kumar expressed his concern over the incident saying the government should plan movement of ministers keeping the functioning of Jharkhand High Court in mind as the assembly and the high court are in the same location and attending it on time is important for both ministers and advocates.
Kumar was of the opinion when the Supreme Court had limited the use of beacon light and hooter, using it in Jharkhand needs reconsideration. He said when dignitaries in advanced countries like mixing with common people and in countries like New Zealand ministers use bicycles why the VIPs continue the practice using a hooter in Jharkhand.
The big question is why the ministers are always in a hurry and why the move causes inconvenience to people when they are of the people for the people and by the people?
Advocate Kumar said that advocates will take proper action in the matter in case the situation does not change.
Arvind Kumar Lall, who is a President Scout as well as advocate practicing in Motor Accident Claim Tribunal, said an FIR is required to be lodged in the connection against the escorting personnel to ensure why he was in a hurry.
He said: “In the year 2014 one escort vehicle of the then Cabinet minister Geetashree Oraon killed a child near Katahal More. Surprisingly the offending vehicle was not duly registered being plied without an insurance. The vehicle belonged to the finance department of the state. There must be some strict guidelines regarding the speed of the VIP vehicles. I remember that earlier in my school days the escort car used to move on the road at a normal speed. No hooter, no siren.”
