Jamshedpur, Nov 18: Police on Thursday arrested two men who had shot at a Cash Management Service (CMS) company official while trying to commit a loot in Bistupur on November 15 evening.

Those arrested were identified as Rajeev Sharma (32) and Ram Sundar Sharma (28), both residents of Parsudih and Kadma respectively.

Revealing about the breakthrough, senior SP M Tamil Vanan said that the police arrested the two following a statement made by a CMS company official Jitendra Kumar Singh against two unidentified bike-borne criminals who had tried to loot Rs 8.5 lakhs from him.

“The arrested persons had tried to snatch a bag that contained Rs 8.5 lakhs near the St Mary’s Church on N Road in Bistupur at 5 pm on Monday. Having failed to snatch the bag due to the resistance put up by the victim, one of the two criminals opened fire at the victim. The shot had hit the victim’s right leg, causing a minor injury, ” said the senior police officer while addressing a press conference on Thursday.

Though the victim had sustained a superficial injury, he had gone to Tata Main Hospital for treatment, leading the police to come to know about the abortive bid of loot.

Vanan said the victim Singh used to do the job of collecting cash from the business establishments and get the money deposited with the company office at Ranikudar in Bistupur.

The senior SP said one of the accused, Rajeev who would work in Blue Dart courier was known to the victim.

“Having come to know about the victim’s job of cash collection, Rajeev had conspired the plan for committing the loot by three others.  Rajeev was the mastermind behind this all,” said Vanan.

He said on Monday afternoon while Rajeev and one of his associates followed the victim in a car from Kadma, two other criminals waited for the victim near St Mary’s Church having come to know that he would come there for the cash collection.

As the victim came there on his bike and returned to his bike having collected the cash, the two criminals swooped over to snatch the money bag, but unable to commit the loot due to resistance, one of the criminals fired a shot, ” Vanan elaborated.

The senior SP pointed out two more criminals, including the shooter are still at large. He said those arrested have confessed their involvement in the crime, adding that they are trying to trace out the two remaining accused soon.
