Two more judges take oath, Supreme Court regains full strength of 34

New Delhi, Feb 13: The Supreme Court attained its full strength of 34 judges on Monday after Justices Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar took the oath.

President Droupadi Murmu has signed the warrants of appointment of Justices Rajesh Bindal and Justice Aravind Kumar to the Supreme Court. The new judges were inducted after a swearing-in ceremony on Monday, at 10.30 am, in the Supreme Court.

Taking to Twitter, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju announced fresh appointments to the top court on Friday.

As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices of High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court. My best to them.
1.Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad HC.
2.Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, Gujarat HC

“As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, the Hon’ble President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices of High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court. My best to them. Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad HC and Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, Gujarat HC,” tweeted Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Notably, Justice Bindal was the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and Justice Kumar severed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court before being elevated to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended their names to the Centre for elevation on January 31.

After the oath ceremony, the Supreme Court attained its full strength after a gap of nine months.

On February 6, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud administered the oath of office to five new judges of the apex court of the country.
