Jamshedpur, Oct 12: Two persons were killed on the spot and a woman was injured as the motorcycle the victims were riding on was hit by a speeding trailer near Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital on the NH-33 under Ghatsila thana area about 45 kms away from here on Tuesday morning.
Those killed were identified as Sukhlal Murmu (22) and Sujeet Kishku (12), both residents of Ashti vllage in Ghurabandha.
The injured, identified as Pulki Murmu (54) is Sukhlal’s mother and escaped with no life-threatening injuries. She has been rushed to the Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
The mishap took place at the point close to the sub-divisional hospital on the NH-33 which is considered to be a danger zone around 10 am today.
Ghatsila thana OC, SK Gupta said that the mishap took place as Sukhlal who was riding the bike with the 12-year-old boy and his mother riding pillion wanted to cross the highway towards a road leading to the Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital.
“While crossing the highway, Sukhlal did not look at the speeding trailer that was coming from behind and eventually the victims were hit by the heavy vehicle. As a result of the mishap, both Sukhlal and the boy were killed on the spot. Fortunately, the woman who was sitting extreme rear of the bike was flung away on the road side, ” said Gupta.
The OC said the bike had, in fact, got stuck in the trailer’s front side. The trailer driver fled the mishap scene having abandoned the vehicle nearby.
According to police, the victims were going to the Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital having travelled about 40 kms from Ghurabandha to see a relative who is admitted at the hospital there.
“This apart, Sukhlal’s wife and others in the family were coming in an autoricshaw to the sub-divisional hospital where they all would have got Covid vaccines, beside seeing the ailing relative, ” a police official said.
Significantly, the Ghatsila thana OC observed that as the spot close to the Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital is a mishap-prone zone the National Highway authority should set up speed-breakers on either side of the dangerous zone.
