Two top Maoists surrender in Daltonganj

Daltonganj, April 19: Santu Bhuiyan and Rajesh Thakur, both sub-zonal commanders of the CPI Maoist organization, surrendered today to a battery of officers from IG police R K Lakra to SPs of Palamu and Garhwa Chandan Kumar Sinha and Anjani Kumar Jha respectively including the DC Palamu Anjaneyulu Dodde besides ASP  Rishabha Garg and SDPO Surjit Kumar etc.

The two sub-zonal commanders surrendered without any weapons. Santu Bhuiyan carries a reward of 5L. He was an operative in the Burha Pahar of the Garhwa district.

The Garhwa SP, who was a witness to his surrender, said Santu will be remanded in judicial custody today in Garhwa. The Garhwa police took Santu with them after the surrender formalities.

Santu has 25 cases out of which 11 cases against him are lodged alone in the Garhwa district, added the SP.

Rajesh Thakur has six cases against him and he has been remanded in judicial custody in Daltonganj. He had no reward on his head.

Commandant CRPF 134 BN Sudesh Kumar said it took around six months for the police of the two districts, Garhwa and Palamu, to make these two sub-zonal commanders to surrender.
