Jamshedpur, Aug 24: In a major breakthrough, the police on Wednesday arrested three persons for running a racket of sale of brown sugar from their houses at Kitadih under suburban Parsudih thana area.
Significantly, those arrested include two middle-aged women identified as Ruhi Parveen and Zarina Khatoon. The third arrested person was identified as Avid Khan, a notorious criminal and husband of Ruhi Parveen.
During the raids, the police have seized 800 packets of brown sugar, over two dozen match-boxes and Rs 4,000 cash.
Revealing about the achievement, City SP K Vijay Shankar said that they had received a tip off that Avid Khan (40) was running a racket of brown sugar sale from his house at the densely-populated Kitadih.
“The accused would sell the brown sugar from their houses and also facilitate the drug addicts to consume the dangerous drugs there itself,” said Vijay Shankar while addressing a press conference.
He pointed out that the packets of brown sugar were recovered from inside the beds where they had concealed them upon getting information about the imminent raids by the police team.
The City SP said that Avid Khan is a notorious criminal and he was accused in criminal cases registered with Parsudih, Sundarnagar and Jugsalai thanas.
“What is most concerning is that Avid Khan was lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail on being convicted in a criminal case. But he was running the racket of selling brown sugar along with his wife after having come out of the jail on parole,” Vijay Shankar revealed.
The senior police officer pointed out that the senior SP Prabhat Kumar has launched a drive against the sale and consumption of brown sugar in the steel city, adding that more arrests are likely to happen soon.
