New Delhi, Oct 20: By capturing two more bronze medals in the Greco-Roman division on Wednesday, India increased their medal total at the U-23 World Wrestling Championship to a record three, making history in the process.
Nitesh defeated Brazilian Igor Fernando Alves De Queirozin to win the 97 kg bronze medal at the Under-23 Senior World Wrestling Championship in Spain. With a 10-0 victory over Brazil, the Indian wrestler earned his country’s third medal overall.
Vikas won the bronze medal match for the 72 kg weight class by defeating Daigo Kobayashi of Japan. The top wrestler triumphed with a score of 6-0, giving India its second medal.
At the Under-23 World Wrestling Championship, the Indian team made history by taking home three medals, a first in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Sajan had previously won the first Greco-Roman medal for India at the U-23 Wrestling World Championship. In the rematch round, the wrestler defeated Dmytro Vasetskyi of Ukraine to win the first-ever medal. By a narrow margin (10-10), the Indian defeated his Ukrainian opponent.
