Udaipur, June 30: Stone-throwing broke out today in Udaipur as hundreds marched in protest close to a sensitive communal neighbourhood after indignation over the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal by two individuals with ties to terrorism, who carried out the crime on camera.

As the procession marched under tight security, some 1,000 demonstrators from various Hindu organisations hoisted saffron banners and screamed demands for justice. As the demonstrators approached the scene of Tuesday’s horrible murder, tensions reached their peak. The furious crowd was scattered by the police when they entered.

There have been concerns regarding the procession’s legitimacy given that there is a curfew in effect in the city and mass gatherings are forbidden. Since violent protests over the homicide broke out on Tuesday, all stores in the city are closed, and the internet has also been shut down.

The 48-year-old Kanhaiya Lal was killed on Tuesday by two guys who recorded the crime, made a show of it, and threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Five more people have been seized in addition to Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, who are seen on camera cleaving Kanhaiya Lal. The National Probe Agency, the nation’s leading counterterrorism agency, has been given the investigation by the Union Home Ministry (NIA).

Investigators claim that the murderers had ties to the Pakistan-based Dawat-e-Islami organisation and that one of them visited Karachi in 2014.
