New Delhi, April 5: Following a series of postponed trips last year, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to visit India in late April.

According to reports, the trip’s main goal would be to boost bilateral ties in the context of ongoing negotiations between India and the United Kingdom on a free trade agreement. The situation in Ukraine, as well as the UK’s leadership role in slapping tough sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime, are sure to come up frequently during Boris Johnson’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi.

Only a few weeks ago, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss paid a visit to India, where she met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Boris Johnson had to cancel two trips to India last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In January, he was expected to attend the Republic Day celebration, and he was also supposed to travel in April 2021, when India’s second wave was raging.

For the same reason, Prime Minister Modi has cancelled his trip to the United Kingdom for the G7 conference in May 2021. Last November, however, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
