Jamshedpur, Oct 6: Unknown criminals have damaged an ATM belonging to Tata Indicash under suburban Bagbera thana area in the night.
Though the ATM was found partially damaged, it is yet to be verified whether the criminals have succeeded in siphoning off the cash from it or not.
Located at Ranidih, a densely-populated slum in Bagbera, the ATM was under the caretaking of a local resident, Bideshi Murmu. The caretaker Murmu who is a physically-challenged person had discovered the tampered ATM in the morning.
A police party had rushed to Ranidih after getting information received from Murmu about the tampering of the ATM.
OC, Bagbera thana, Kaushlendra Kumar Jha confirmed about the Tata Indicash ATM lying damaged.
“Though the ATM was damaged by criminals, we are yet to get it verified whether cash has been stolen from it or not. We have summoned the ATM’s caretaker to the police station. We will be able to know about the cash status after talking to the caretaker only, ” said Jha.
The OC said the caretaker had found the shutter of the ATM’s kiosk down when he visited the place at about 7 am on Wednesday.
“There was no security guard at the ATM kiosk, but is equipped with CCTV cameras. We will also see the CCTV footage of the ATM once the caretaker comes to the police station, ” said the OC.
The caretaker Murmu who looks after several other ATMs in the Bagbera locality had not turned up at the police station by 1.30 pm.
