Lucknow, Feb 22: Suresh Khanna, the finance minister for Uttar Pradesh, presented the state budget on Wednesday. He claimed that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increased by 16.8% in 2021–2022, which is greater than the national growth rate.

“The state’s contribution to the country’s GDP is more than 8 per cent. In 2021-2022, a growth of 16.8 per cent was registered in the state’s Gross State Domestic Product, higher than the nartional growth rate last fiscal,” Khanna said.

On Wednesday, Khanna delivered the sixth budget since 2017 and the second of the Yogi Adityanath administration’s second term.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s current Budget session began on Monday.

The finance minister added that despite the ‘global recession,’ the state’s economy still presents a positive picture.

“In the era of global recession, the growth rate of the state is encouraging. Before 2017, the unemployment rate of the state was 14.4 per cent. Today, it has come down to about 4.2 per cent,” the Finance minister said.

He continued by saying that a 19% growth in the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is anticipated for the fiscal year 2023–2024.

In addition, Khanna stated that more than Rs 51,639.68 crore was transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in the fiscal year 2022–2023. This was done as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, the government’s primary programme for providing income support to farmers.
