Lucknow, Oct 7: The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday appointed retired Allahabad High Court Judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava as a Single-member Commission to enquire into the Lakhimpur Kheri incident where 8 people died. The Commission was asked to complete the entire enquiry within a period of two months.
The order was signed by Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi.
“Whereas the Governor is of the opinion that it is necessary to hold enquiry in the matter of public importance regarding the entire incident of death of 8 persons in Lakhimpur Kheri District on dated 3-10-2021. In the exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the commission of enquiry Act, 1952 , the Governor is pleased to appoint a retired judge of the High Court, Allahabad, Pradeep Kumar Srivastav as a single- member Commission of enquiry with Headquarters at Lakhimpur Kheri”, the order reads.
On the other hand, Congress general Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is demanding removal of the Minister Of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni. Priyanka said that “ Justice is a right in a democracy and justice is not served yet. Every eyewitness has identified the Minister of State for Home’s son and had said that he was involved in the matter. The Union Minister needs to resign to ensure an unbiased investigation”.
