Lucknow, Jan 14: The Apna Dal’s Chaudhary Amar Singh resigned from the BJP-led alliance today, a few weeks before the elections, marking Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s 11th resignation in three days.

Akhilesh Yadav, who has emerged as the main opponent in Uttar Pradesh, has reaped the benefits yet again.

Minister and OBC leader Dharam Singh Saini resigned from the state government on Thursday, dealing another blow to the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections. Saini, a four-time member from Saharanpur’s Nakud, is the ruling party’s third state minister to resign in the last three days, in what is considered as a pivotal shift ahead of a vital election.

In the last three days, seven more BJP MLAs and one from the Apna Dal, which is in an alliance with the BJP, have left the party.

The mother of a 2017 rape victim in Unnao has been nominated by the Congress for the Uttar Pradesh assembly election next month. The mother of the Unnao victim, Asha Singh, was among those listed in the party’s list released today.

“Our list sends a new message that if you have been a victim of harassment and torture, the Congress will support you,” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as she released the list.
