Uproar at RIMS after death of newborn child, relatives allege carelessness in treatment

Ranchi, May 29: The irate family members caused a disturbance on Sunday after the loss of a 5-day-old newborn child undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS.

The child was admitted to the paediatric surgery department on the fourth floor of the cardiology department.

According to the information received the child’s bowel has been an issue since birth. The child was a resident of Ranchi’s Dhurva Sector-1.

According to Dr Abhishek Ranjan of Pediatric Surgery, the child had a gastrointestinal condition.

“An operation was performed and the child was held in the intensive care unit under the observation of specialists. The child was suffering from regular epileptic episodes and that hypoglycaemia was an issue. We tried everything we could to save him, but he perished. We’re also very sorry for this,” Dr Ranjan said.

After the child’s death, the furious family erupted into a disturbance. Dr Ranjan then sent the family members home with the body of the child after persuading and pacifying them.
