Uttarakhand avalanche death count climbs to 19

New Delhi, Oct 7: The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering said on Friday that three more remains had been found at the scene of an avalanche, bringing the total death toll to 19.

According to reports, two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters took off from Harsil in Uttarakhand to aid with the search efforts.

The avalanche happened on Tuesday at a height of 17,000 feet when a team from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) was making their way down after reaching the top of Draupadi Ka Danda II mountain.

Late on Thursday night, three more remains were found at the avalanche site, bringing the total number of bodies found there to 19, according to the NIM.

Two of these individuals were teachers, and 17 of them were trainee mountaineers, according to the report.
