Ranchi, Aug 25: The Jharkhand government and the Higher and Technical Education department are set to invite applications for a total of 3000 posts for college teachers in various colleges and universities.

Talking in this regard, an official of the department requesting anonymity said, “We are waiting for Governor Ramesh Bais to approve the Jharkhand State University (Amendment) Bill, 2022 that has already been passed by the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly in this monsoon session. The department is busy completing other procedures related to the appointment.”

Upon the question of required qualifications, the official stated, “According to the amendment bill, for the appointment of college teachers, it will be mandatory to pass in any one of Jharkhand Eligibility Test (JET), National Eligibility Test (NET), Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and PhD.”

Reservation will be applicable considering the university as a unit instead of a subject. Teacher eligibility tests will be held every year. The official further added, “The Bill also mentions that the appointment will be done by applying for a reservation roster considering the university as a unit as per the guidelines of the UGC. Till now, subject-wise reservation roster has been prepared for the appointment of college teachers and accordingly appointments have been made.”

Notably, the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) plans to now conduct the Jharkhand Eligibility Test (JET) every year for the appointment of college teachers. This has also been mentioned in the amended bill.

Meanwhile, the appointment of college teachers will be done by JPSC through interviews. The commission will prepare a merit list for this, which will be valid for one year. Candidates twice the total vacancies will be selected in the merit list. However, the Commission will recommend only one name for each post to the University concerned for the appointment
