Dhanbad, Feb 4: Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) has written to the Governor-cum-Chancellor of the universities of State for immediate appointment of vice-chancellor (VC) in the university.

BBMKU Registrar  Dr Vikash Kumar in his letter to Governor Ramesh Bais has said that due to the vacant post of vice-chancellor, the functioning of BBMKU has been badly affected.

“So, for disposal of routine works of the university, the appointment of vice-chancellor in-charge till regular one is recruited in the institution is needed for the time being,” said the registrar in his letter.
The post of BBMKU vice-chancellor is vacant since January 31 after the retirement of North Chhotanagpur Division Hazaribagh commissioner Kamal John Lakra.

The North Chhotanagpur Division commissioner was given the additional charge as  BBMKU VC in August 2020 following the retirement of Anjani Kumar Srivastava.

North Chhotanagpur commissioner Kamal John Lakra , who retired on January 31, 2022, neither handed over his charge of office to any official of the division nor the Governor House issued any notification for the caretaker vice-chancellor of  BBMKU. So, the post of VC in BBMKU is still vacant.

A senior official of the university said that the 10 constituent colleges of Dhanbad and Bokaro fall under BBMKU and the function in these institutions is almost paralyzed and pending in absence of a VC.

“Though Chhotanagpur Division Hazaribagh commissioner Kamal John Lakra occasionally came to Dhanbad during his six months tenure, he did not let the work of colleges and university suffer,” said the principal of a constituent college who requested anonymity.

In absence of the VC, the present authorities of BBMKU are facing agitation of students over alleged arbitrary fee collection by three B.Ed colleges-  Baliyapur, Digwadih and Chas (Bokaro).

A senior official of BBMKU said that students of these B.Ed colleges are on the boil and the meeting held on the matter failed short. Students are demanding a probe of the arbitrary collection and only the VC can take any decision on it.
