Jamshedpur, Aug 11: Covid-19 vaccination in various urban and rural centres of East Singhbhum district resumed on Wednesday, as a lot of 17,000 Covishield shots reached here last night from Ranchi.
Not a single centre – both in urban and rural areas – administered Covid vaccination on Tuesday as the stock had exhausted.
People especially those in the age group of 18 to 44 years were seen flocking to various jab centres on Wednesday.
Health department officials said vaccination would be given in around 60 centres across the district for the age group of 18 to 44 years and above.
Several centres provided vaccine doses through online slot booking while others provided Covid jabs through the walk-in mode.
As many as 17 centres in urban areas of East Singhbhum provided the vaccine doses for 18 plus while two centres were earmarked for vaccination to those 45 years and above.
Sources in the health department said that several centres in both urban and rural areas which had to be closed down due to the short supply of vaccine doses, re-opened today.
Health department officials said that vaccination at Sadar Hospital in Khasmahal would also begin in a day or two through online slot booking.
Earlier, the government-run hospital was providing vaccinations through a walk-in process.
Officials said a decision for slot booking was taken for vaccination at Sadar Hospital keeping in view the huge rush of vaccine seekers.
Meanwhile, East Singhbhum district reported a single case of Covid-19 on Tuesday. Around 4,500 Covid tests were conducted on Tuesday.
” It is a welcome relief that positive cases have reduced considerably. No Covid deaths were reported during the last few days. The testing for Covid-19 through RT-PCR, Trunet and Rapid Antigen Tests are continuing with the same pace in the district, ” said an official.
The Tatanagar railway station also failed to report any positive case for incoming passengers during the last 24- hours.
Data available from the health department revealed that the recovery rate in the district is 97.92 per cent while the death rate is 2.04 per cent.
Meanwhile, over the possible threat of Covid’s third wave, the district administration is continuously asking people to follow Covid guidelines which include wearing masks, maintaining social distance and frequent use of hand sanitizers.
