Dhanbad, July 17: Abrupt change of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribag Vice-Chancellor (V-C) has cast a shadow on the timely completion of preparation for the second cycle of NAAC grading of the university.
In two months two Vice-Chancellors have changed while only one month is left for the inspection.
Former V-C Dr Mukul Dev Narayan kick-started the preparation for the second cycle of NAAC grading. After his completion of three years term on May 31, Ranchi University V-C Ajit Kumar Sinha was given additional charge of VBU on June 4 and he gave pace in the task (NAAC preparation) on a war footing.
But on July 12, he was abruptly stripped off the responsibility and North Chhotanagpur Division Hazaribagh Commissioner Suman Cathrine Kispotta was given charge as the VBU V-C.
A senior professor of the VBU postgraduate department said that preparation for the second NAAC grading of the university is in the final stage and if all goes as per plan it would be completed next month in August. But an abrupt change of guard has, of course, cast a shadow on it, he added.
Dr Ajit Kumar Sinha was though given the responsibility of the university’s routine work only, he made the NAAC grading preparation his first priority and discussed it with the heads of the departments per day and worked 24 hours continuously to get it completed on scheduled time, said the professor who requested not quoting his name.
A postgraduate teacher of VBU said that the NAAC grading preparation is in the final stage and requires the presence of a V-C full-time. But the acting V-C ( Commissioner) has already announced that she would give time for university only in the second half of the day that too in her office. He said it is impossible to complete the preparation on time in such a situation, he added.
VBU Hazaribagh was the first university in Jharkhand that got the first cycle of NAAC Grading first in 2015-16. It got a ‘Grade B’. A senior postgraduate teacher said that VBU got 2.37 points and narrowly missed the ‘Grade A’.
It became eligible for the second Cycle in 2021 but due to Corona pandemic, preparation got a major jolt.
Kolhan University Chaibasa also got second Cycle in January this year but both times got a ‘Grade C’. Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University Dhanbad and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University Ranchi are yet to get any grading.
“Acting V-C Dr Ajit Kumar Sinha not only seriously initiated the work but also wrote to the Raj Bhawan for promotion and posting of teachers on vacant posts of different faculties to get NAAC grading,” he said.
