Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday inaugurated the much-awaited Sirmatoli Flyover, gifting the capital city a major boost in urban mobility. The new flyover will drastically cut down travel time, allowing commuters to reach from Rajendra Chowk to Sirmatoli in just 2 to 3 minutes. Officials say this development will not only save time but also fuel, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
India’s First-of-its-Kind Technology Used
Principal Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Sunil Kumar, highlighted that the flyover incorporates several cutting-edge technologies, some of which are first-of-their-kind in the country.
Key Highlights:
Railway span: The flyover features a 132-meter cable-stayed span over railway tracks. Harmu River Bridge: A 94-meter cable-stayed bridge spans the Harmu River. Total Length: The total length of the flyover is 2.34 kilometers.
Railway Safety Certificate Approved
On the day of the inauguration itself, the Railway Safety Certificate was issued. The certificate was formally handed over on stage by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). The ramp length was revised and reduced from 114 meters to 84 meters for better efficiency.
Completed in Record Time
The flyover was completed in less than three years at a total cost of ₹356.76 crore. Once fully operational, it is expected to divert up to 40% of city traffic, easing congestion and improving travel times in central Ranchi.
