Ramgarh, Jan 4: A 21-year-old woman Gudiya Devi, wife of Umesh Hansda of Puranpaniya village under the remote panchayat of Ichak block of Hazaribagh district, was carried on a cot by the villagers after she started her labour pain. The villagers carried her on a three-kilometer mountain trail to reach the road.

Even after waiting for two and a half hours, Gudiya Devi did not get the help of the government’s Mamta vehicle. The Sahiya, who was accompanying her for safe delivery, had called Hazaribagh administration to get help with the Mamta vehicle, but she only got assurance in the name of the vehicle.

Somehow, the Sahiya established contact at 5 pm and called a private vehicle. As the commotion was going on for a long time, the woman had delivered in the vehicle. She gave birth to a healthy baby.

After this, the mother and the child were brought to the community hospital Ichak in the same condition at 6.30 p.m. where Dr. Omprakash, in-charge, said that both of them are safe after the tests.

“There is no Mamta vehicle in Dadighaghar Panchayat.  Mamta vehicles of other Panchayats are used as per convenience. Apart from that, there is no road to go to the village. So, the villagers take the patient to the hospital according to their convenience through the hilly road,” the villagers rued.
