Ranchi, Sept 23: A public hearing was organized in the Tubed village of Newari panchayat of Sadar block on Wednesday regarding land acquisition for the DVC coal project. As soon as the public hearing started, the villagers of six villages of the project area started opposing the public hearing with traditional weapons.

The villagers opposing the public hearing said that the DVC is cheating them. Public hearings are being conducted by giving a lure of money to some people of the area. The company wants to buy the land of our ancestors at a cheap price.

The villager said, “forest land is ours, we will not give land for the colliery.  By giving land, our future generations will be ruined”. However, some villagers were also in support of giving land to the company.  There was an argument between the two sides regarding this.

After the protest of the villagers, the representatives who arrived on behalf of the company, Sumit Mukherjee of DVC, Sanjay Kumar and the administrative officers returned.  SDO Santosh Kumar Mishra, Zilla Parishad member Vinod Oraon, Block Development Officer Meghnath Oraon, CO Rudra Pratap etc. were present in the public hearing.

Damodar Valley Corporation is about to start the mining project on 1136.66 acres of land in Tubed village of Sadar block. The target is to mine 6 million metric tonnes of coal per year from this coal project.
