New Delhi, Nov 27: South Africa player Faf du Plessis, praised Virat Kohli, a former team captain and teammate for Royal Challengers Bangalore. When asked about his relationship with Kohli after succeeding him as RCB captain, the Proteas player praised both his enthusiasm and energy for the game of cricket.
After IPL 2021 ended, Kohli, who had been named the team’s permanent captain since 2013, resigned from his position. Du Plessis was named captain by RCB ahead of the 2022 IPL season.
“He (Virat Kohli) is a much bigger alpha than me. You don’t try and compete. The ego is the thing where peacocks generally clash, isn’t it? It’s when you like the feathers come out and you want to see like who has got the shiniest feather in the room. And for me, I think luckily, I get that about people and relationships,” he said on The Grade Cricketer’s Podcast.
“Especially from a captaincy point of view… I don’t try and outshine someone else in the dressing room. I try and build a relationship. So, with Virat, that was exactly my point of entry,” he added.

The 38-year-old, who was Kohli’s colleague, was quick to consider the other side of Kohli, which he had firsthand experience with. Plessis emphasised Kohli’s concern for others and referred to him as “a family man.”
“When you play with him, you see there is the other side, which is this caring guy that just wants to play cricket, and actually a really family guy. He’s amazing,” Du Plessis further said.
