New Delhi, July 12: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday scheduled a hearing on Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram’s request for anticipatory release in the suspected Chinese Visas scam that the Enforcement Directorate is looking into for August 18.

When the attorney for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) informed the court that Additional Solicitor General SV Raju was unavailable, Justice Poonam A Bamba postponed the hearing on the plea.

Additionally, the investigative agency verbally stated that it will uphold its earlier promise to take no coercive action against Karti Chidambaram till the following date.

ED had verbally promised the high court on July 12 that no coercive measures would be employed against him until July 12. After his anticipatory bail request and those of two others were denied by the trial court on June 3 due to the seriousness of the offence, Karti Chidambaram petitioned the high court.

In connection with the alleged scandal involving the granting of visas to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011 while his father P Chidambaram served as the home minister, the ED has filed a money laundering case against Karti Chidambaram and others.

In accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act’s (PMLA) requirements, the agency has filed its case after taking note of a recent first information report filed by the CBI in the same case.
