Vishal Kumar, Maria Rose declared IIT ISM Dhanbad’s best athletes

Dhanbad, Nov 7: B tech final year student Vishal Kumar and B tech 3rd-year student Maria Rose Paliyam were declared the best woman and man athlete during the annual sports meet of IIT India School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad which concluded on Sunday evening.

Vishal bagged five medals including four golds in the 100m, 200m, 4×100 and 4×400 relay races and silver in the long jump while Maria Rose Paliyam won the gold medal in three events-100m, 200m and 400 m race.

Maria and Vishal also got the tag of fastest runners by winning the 100m race with record timing in the competition. Deputy director IIT ISM Prof Dhiraj Kumar appreciated the record performance of the techies and gave away trophies to them.

In the 100m race, after Maria, B tech final year student Priyanka and B tech 2nd year student Ritika Kumari got 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

In the 200m race, while running as per her reputation, Maria left 3rd year student Akkala Abhinaya Sree in 2nd and M PHIL/M tech student Surabhi Agrawal in 3rd spot.

Maria got her 3rd gold medal in the 400 m race.  Ritika Kumar bagged silver and Shilpa Kumari ( both 2nd year) bronze.

In the men’s 100m race after Vishal Kumar, final year B tech student Bhukya Madhu won silver and Dibijt Bose (Btech 2nd year) bronze medal. In the 200 m race too, the trio of Vishal, Bhukya and Dibijit emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd  respectively.

Vishal won his 3rd gold medal 4x100m relay in a team with Bhukya Madhu, Sai Krishna and Ankit Kumar. He won the 4th gold medal in the 4×400 relay. He bagged silver in long jump by jumping 5.85 mt. However, MSc student Piyush Taunk left him behind by jumping a record 6.05 mt and winning the gold medal. Garnipudi Kiran Babu bagged bronze.

Ankit Kumar also got the distinction of winning 3 gold medals. Besides the 4x 100 m relay, he won gold in the 400m race leaving Bhukya   Madhu and Bijay Kumar Soren in 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Ankit continued his dominance in the 800 m race too leaving  B tech 2nd year students  Laxman Meena and  Bijay Kumar Soren on2nd and 3rd  spots respectively.

Laxman Meena bagged a gold medal in the 1500m race 2nd year student  Ankit  Meena and 3rd year student Bhuneshwar won silver and bronze respectively.
Bijay Kumar Soren cornered the honour of best long-distance runner of IIT ISM by winning the 5000m race. Deepak  Kumar Sah and  Shreyash Yadav ( both 2nd year) got silver and bronze respectively.

Adula Nithin (2nd year) won the 100m hurdle gold while Garnipudi Kiran Babu (3rd year) bagged silver and bronze respectively. However, L Anil Kumar (2nd year) clinched the gold medal in 400m hurdles while Akarapy Bhageerath (3rd year) and Adula Nithin silver and bronze.

Mens’:

High jump– Akarapu Bhageerath, Shubham Kumar, Balaji

Tripple jump– GR Babu, Victor Kandir, Adula Nithin

Shot put– Sachin Yadav, Dev Yumar Rai, Danavath A Nayak

Discuss throw– Ejisar Nayak, Ravinder Singh, Aishit Verma

Javelin throw – Hitesh Kumar, Thummanapally Niranjan, Jillepally Murali

4 km cycle race – Sanjay Singh, Sumit Kumar Modi, Binod Kumar

 

Women’s:

800m race – Priyanka, Shilpa Vaishnav, Gouthami  Kethavath,

1500m race- Shilpa Vaishnav, Gouthami Kethavath, Pragya Bamraha

Long jump– Priyanka, Shivangi Patel, Abhinaaya

High jump– Ishan Bajpai, Sadanala Hima  Varshini, Pasula Pujitha Rajeswari

Shot put–  Shivangi Patel,  Isha Bajpai,  Obli Setty Neha

Discus Throw- Shivangin Patel, Isha Bajpai, Sakshi Yadav

4 x 100 relay- Ankita, Ritika, Jasmine, Sakshi

2km cycle- Sabiha Salma, Rukshsar, Ajanta Sahithi
