W Singhbhum Chess: Tanishk Kumar emerges inter-school champion

Dhanbad, July 17: Tanisk Kumar of St Xavier English Medium School Chaibasa became the new champion of the West Singhbhum Inter School Chess Championship.

In the championship, Tanisk Kumar was the lone unbeaten player and earned the highest 5.5 points out of six rounds to get the first prize as well as the crown of the district school chess.

Amit Kumar Singh, Arnav Kayal and Anwesh Mahanta got equal 5 points each in the championship. But on the basis of progressive points, Amit got second position leaving Arnav Kayal and Anwesh Mahanta in third and fourth position respectively.

The tournament was organized by the West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) in which 68 players from different schools of the district participated. WSDCA general secretary Basant Khandelwal said that the top four players of this championship are eligible to participate in Chess For Everyone FIDE rating championship scheduled to be held next month.

General Secretary Khandelwal said that Srijit Bhowmik became the under-13 champion with 4.5 points while Kush Madhura (4.5 points) got the honour of the under-11 champion. Besides them, Namya Khirwal and G Arav became under -9 and under-7 champions respectively in the tournament with three points each.

Manish Sharma, Anant Lal Vishwakarma, Jwel Gagrai, Samir Purty, Suraj Tiu, Bhupesh Balmuch, Hursh Sharma and Dipak Birua conducted the tournament.
