Kolkata, April 16: The counting of votes for Bengal’s Ballygunge seat took place on Saturday. The TMC swept both seats in Bengal, defeating the BJP in a landslide win.
To represent Asansol in the Lok Sabha, the TMC fielded actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha against BJP’s Agnimitra Paul. Meanwhile, Babul Supriyo, who just joined Mamata Banerjee’s TMC after leaving the BJP, ran for the Ballygunge assembly seat. Both of them registered massive wins.
Shatrughan Sinha defeated BJP’s Agnimitra Paul by a margin of over 3 lakh votes in Asansol. On the other side, in Ballygunge TMC’s Babul Supriyo won by more than 20,000 votes from his nearest contender, CPI(M)`s Saira Shah Halim.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee praised voters in the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for delivering her party’s candidates a decisive mandate.
“We consider this to be our people’s warm Shubho Nababarsho gift to our Ma- Mati- Manush organization. Salute to the voters for reposing faith in us, yet again,” she tweeted.
I sincerely thank the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving decisive mandate to AITC party candidates. (1/2)
