Jamshedpur, June 21: A weak and delayed monsoon has resulted in 85 per cent rain deficit in Jharkhand, suggested Meteorological statistics issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre today.
Against a normal of 92.5 mm, the state has so far actually received 14.1 mm, a deficit of 85 per cent.
Such rainfall deficit in the month of June is experienced by the state after a long time.
All 24 districts figure in the deficit list. According to statistics, Garhwa failed to get even 1 mm of rain resulting in a cent per cent deficit.
Ranchi witnessed an 88 per cent rain deficit while Bokaro and Chatra were experiencing a deficit of over 90 per cent. Dhanbad and Giridih were facing a 97 per cent rain deficit.
In Lohardaga, the rain deficit figure was 20 per cent. Against a normal of 93.1 mm, Lohardaga has so far received 74.1 mm.
Notably, a rain shortfall between 20 per cent and 59 per cent is considered as deficient while a shortfall of 60 to 99 per cent is considered as scanty.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi Meteorological Centre has withdrawn the alert of heat waves from the state today.
Weathermen said thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by strong surface wind is likely to occur at isolated places over the state today.
According to Meteorological officials, the south-west monsoon was yet to cover the entire state. Conditions are favourable for the further advancement of monsoon. It will take another two to three days for the monsoon to cover the entire state, said a duty officer at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
