Kolkata, August 27: Nearly 3 kilometres from West Bengal State University in North 24 Paraganas’s Duttapukur, a large explosion was recorded at an illegal firework factory, leaving at least eight persons dead and five more injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday at about 10 am while several persons were working at the factory in Nilgunj’s Moshpole in the vicinity of Duttapukur police station, around 30 km north of Kolkata, police said.
Sources claim that the building’s roof was totally blasted off, and the victims’ burnt and dismembered bodies landed out on the roads.
Those hurt have been taken to Barasat Hospital for medical attention.
The police have roped off the entire area. A search and rescue effort is ongoing.
