Notably, Pande had been receiving treatment for kidney problems at a Mumbai hospital for a few months and had lately been put on breathing. Sujit Bose and Shashi Panja, both state ministers, would travel to Mumbai to bring back his mortals remains.
Pande was a member of the Congress before joining the Trinamool Congress following his defeat in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections. After the TMC took power in West Bengal in 2011, he was appointed as a state minister. He has been in charge of the Consumer Affairs, Self-Help Groups, and Self-Employment sections since that time.
