New Delhi, Feb 21: Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed on Tuesday to ‘systematically’ press on with Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine, as he gave his state of the nation address. Ahead of the first of Russia’s war with Ukraine Putin said, “Step by step, we will carefully and systematically solve the aims that face us.”

He also accused the west of playing a dirty game and said that the west was completely responsible for the escalation in Ukraine.

“The responsibility for fuelling the Ukrainian conflict, for its escalation, for the number of victims… lies completely with Western elites,” he said.

“The West is trying to turn a local conflict into a global conflict and we will react in an appropriate way. We are talking about the existence of our country,” he added.

He also said that they are doing everything possible to solve the problem peacefully. “We were doing everything possible to solve this problem peacefully, negotiating a peaceful way out of this difficult conflict, but behind our backs, a very different scenario was being prepared.”

A day after US President Joseph Biden’s closely guarded visit to Kyiv, Putin made his comments. Ahead of the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion, the US President offered Ukraine $500 million in new armaments and unwavering American assistance.

At least 7,000 civilians have already died in the first year of the Ukrainian war, and there has been a significant outflow from the country due to the fighting.
