New Delhi, Dec 27: Both outdated Android and iPhone handsets would no longer support WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, according to reports.

Starting on December 31 and affecting as many as 49 cellphones, the adjustments will be in effect. Older iPhone users will need to update to iOS 12 or later, while Android users will need Android OS 4.1 or newer in order to continue using WhatsApp. Accordingly, users of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c won’t be able to use WhatsApp on their devices any longer.

GizChina reports that as of December 31st, WhatsApp support for iOS 11 and Android OS 4 and older may end. There are 49 cellphones on the list of obsolete devices, including models from Apple, Samsung, LG, and Huawei.

Users of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c may need to switch to a newer model of the iPhone, however users of the iPhone 5s or later models can update to iOS 12 and will still be able to use WhatsApp.

Users will need to update to iOS 12 and Android 4.1 or newer versions in order to continue using WhatsApp on their mobile devices. Most of these phones are incompatible with modern operating systems because they are quite ancient. The messaging app will stop functioning on these devices whenever WhatsApp stops providing support for them. Here is a list of phones that, according to reports, will no longer support WhatsApp as of December 31.
