Ranchi, Aug 11: The Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has been in limelight for some time now and majorly for the wrong reasons.

The HOD of the CTVS department Dr Vineet Mahajan had earlier complained against management and the doctors of his department at the Bariatu police station for taking money from the patients before the operation.

After this allegation, the RIMS management formed an inquiry committee under the leadership of the medical superintendent and found some evidence against Dr Anshul. One of the patients blamed that Dr Anshul Kumar had taken Rs 40,000 cash from him before the operation along with Rs 1,100 for medicines.

The patient added that after taking money at RIMS, Dr Anshul told the patient to go to a certain private clinic. He has also provided the clinic’s slip as evidence.

Notably, Dr Anshul said that all the allegations which are being made are baseless. In an earlier interview, he said that he and Dr Rakesh Chaudhary have started the CTVS department in RIMS and have performed complex operations over the last three years. All the allegations that are made are completely baseless.

Additional Director (Administration) Chandan Kumar, in correspondence with the Joint Secretary of the Health Department, Jai Kishore Prasad, has directed an inquiry into the private practices of Dr Anshul.

In July, the management of RIMS had issued show-cause notices to three senior doctors, Dr Hemant Narayan, Dr Praveen Srivastava and Dr Rakesh Kumar of the CTVS and surgery dept as they were missing from duty when a surprise inspection was conducted in the hospital. Dr Rakesh said that he was not feeling well due to a back sprain and had verbally informed the HOD about it. He added that he left the campus minutes before the surprise inspection.

Amid all the chaos, the patients are the ones who have been suffering the most as operations have been getting postponed for the last five months in the CTVS department. Patients said that for the last five months, they have been waiting but the dept has not given them dates for the operation yet.

After listening to the complaints of the patients, the medical superintendent assured them that the date of operation would be given to them at the earliest.

Dr Birua said that it is a matter of concern for patients to sit on dharna. He added that the atmosphere of the cardiology department has deteriorated a lot and that the doctors should adopt professional behaviour. The interest of the patients should not be affected.
