Dhanbad, Aug 1: The new civil surgeon (CS) of Dhanbad, Dr Alok Viswakarma, has underlined his priority and said he will focus on streamlining the health services in rural pockets of the district so that the villagers do not need to go to the township for treatment.

After assuming office on Monday, Dr Vishwakrma said that he will utilize 100% available resources of the health department for implementing the state and central government programmes with special stress on the proper covering of routine immunization, strict monitoring of the PC PNDT Act and family planning programme.

“I have experience of working in rural health centres and know what types of problems villagers face in getting health services. So, my special focus will be on providing them with the best available facility at their doors,” said Dr Vishwakarma.

Dr Vishwakarma took charge from Dr Shyam Kishore Kant, who has been transferred to Hazaribagh as regional malaria officer.

One of the most senior medical officers of the 1990 batch, Dr Vishwakarma started his service at Maliganj health centre in Aurangabad district (Bihar) in 1991. Later, he was transferred to Amlapada PHC of Pakur district as a medical officer.

In 1996, Dr Vishwakarma was transferred to Dhanbad. In 2004, he was transferred to Giridih district and in 2012, he returned to Dhanbad again.

Dr Vishwakarma, besides being a medical officer in charge of Kendua Primary Health Centre (PHC), had been discharging responsibility in Dhanbad jail.

During the Corona pandemic, he aptly discharged the responsibility as the nodal officer of Central Hospital’s Covid ward.
