Will the Indian Stock Market Remain Closed Tomorrow for the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024?

Stock market holiday confirmed for November 20, 2024, as Maharashtra votes for its next Assembly. Banks in Maharashtra will also remain closed, with digital banking services operational.

MUMBAI: The Indian stock market, including the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), will remain closed tomorrow, November 20, 2024, due to the Maharashtra Assembly Election. This announcement resolves any confusion among stock market investors about trading availability on this day.

Stock Market Holidays 2024

According to the official list of trading holidays published on the BSE website, three stock market holidays fall in November 2024:

1.November 1: Laxmi Pooja

2.November 15: Guru Nanak Jayanti

3.November 20: Maharashtra Assembly Election

Initially, only two holidays were scheduled for November. However, the announcement of the Maharashtra Assembly Election led to the addition of a stock market holiday on November 20, 2024. After this, the next stock market holiday is scheduled for Christmas on December 25, 2024.

For further clarity, investors are advised to visit the BSE website (bseindia.com) and refer to the “Trading Holidays” section.

Bank Holiday on November 20, 2024

In line with the election day, all banks in Maharashtra will remain closed tomorrow, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday list for 2024. However, digital banking platforms, such as ATMs, UPI, and online banking, will remain functional, ensuring uninterrupted access to financial services.

Additional Restrictions During Election Day

•Liquor Shops Closed: All liquor outlets across Maharashtra will remain shut on November 20 to maintain public order during the election process.

•Public Holiday Declared: The Maharashtra government has declared November 20 a public holiday to enable maximum voter participation in the Assembly elections.

•Voting Day: November 20, 2024

•Results Announcement: November 23, 2024

As the state gears up for voting, citizens are encouraged to exercise their democratic rights while essential services remain unaffected.
