Woman bit by Cobra while cleaning pipe in Hazaribag, condition stable

Hazaribag, July 26: Putting hand inside a drain pipe for cleaning landed a woman in big trouble. Urmila Devi, wife of Govind Mehta, a resident of Barkakhurd under Ichak police station today was bitten by a cobra snake. The incident took place this morning. Urmila who got timely treatment is out of danger.

According to villagers, Urmila came out of the house in the morning and saw that there was difficulty in getting the water out of the house from the drain pipe. She saw garbage stuck in the pipe. To remove the garbage, she put her hand in the pipe. But she felt something bite in her hand. When she screamed, people gathered there and peeped into the pipe and saw a cobra snake. The information was given to Mukhiya representative Omprakash Mehta who immediately reached there. He first sent the injured woman to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital where she is undergoing treatment at present. Doctors said the condition of the woman is out of danger now.

At the house of Urmila, water was poured into the pipe to get the snake out. But it did not come out. Later hot water was flown into the pipe forcing the cobra snake to come out. The villagers caught the snake. Mehta informed snake rescuer M. Gopal, who immediately rescued the snake. Gopal advised people not to kill snakes.
