Jamshedpur, Sept 6: A middle-aged woman was killed and another woman injured in a gas cylinder blast at a residential apartment in Ramnagar under the Kadma thana area on Wednesday.
Identified as Nisha Gupta (42), the victim was killed in the blast while she was busy in cooking food in the kitchen of her flat at about 10.30 am today.
The impact of the cylinder blast was so intense that a portion of the building’s parapet had caved in and the glass panels of the residential flat smashed besides causing the woman to die instantly. The flat located on the fourth floor of the apartment, Bashant Vihar, was also partially on fire.
Due to the commotion caused by the cylinder blast and the subsequent fire, the residents came out of their flats in fear. A fire brigade was called in and after an hour-long fire fighting the razing fire could be brought under control.
A police party then arrived at the scene and recovered the woman’s body from the fourth floor.
Sub-inspector Shriram Sharma of the Kadma thana said the reason behind the gas cylinder blast could not be known as the sole victim, Nisha Gupta, died in the blast instantly.
“But in view of the incident, we have called in a team of LPG experts from Ranchi. The expert team is expected to find out the reason behind the blast, ” said Sharma while talking to lagatar24.com.
