Jamshedpur, Sept 18: A middle-aged woman was killed on the spot and her husband as well as daughter were seriously injured as the car they were travelling in was hit by another car from behind on the Straight Mile Road near Baug-e-Jamsheed School under Bistupur Thana area late on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Shruti Das (38), a resident of DS Flat in Golmuri. The deceased’s husband Santosh Das (42) and the 10-year-old daughter Shurabhi have been admitted at the Tata Main Hospital where the condition of the man is described as critical.
The mishap occurred while the victims were returning home to Golmuri from Kadma at around 11 pm.
As Santosh Das slowed down the speed to negotiate a small roundabout near the Baug-e-Jamsheed School, a car came from behind at a maddening speed and hit the car. As a result of the hitting, the victims rammed into a divider before the vehicle was overturned.
The car which caused the mishap sped away towards Mango. Subsequently, some passersby rescued the three injured and rushed them to hospital.
As the condition of the woman was apparently critical, the rescuers took her to the Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared her as brought dead.
The people had taken Santosh Das and his daughter to MGM Medical Hospital but their condition was also serious, especially that of the man. The duo were later shifted to the Tata Main Hospital for better treatment.
OC, Bistupur Thana, Anjani Kumar confirmed that the mishap took place due to reckless driving by a car.
“The erring car driver has managed to escape with the vehicle. We are trying to trace the car and its driver by collecting CCTV footage of the mishap scene, ” said the OC while talking to lagatar24.com.
