Jamshedpur, Jan 18: A middle-aged woman sustained a gun-shot injury as a group of PLFI rebels resorted to indiscriminate firing at a village under Bandhgao thana area in West Singhbhum district about 200 km away from here late last night.

The victim identified as Karmi Hasa Purty was first referred to a hospital in the Khunti district following first-aid by the police. The victim who is a resident of Karika village in Bandhgao was later shifted to RIMS on Wednesday afternoon.

Notably, West Singhbhum superintendent of police, Ashutosh Shekhar said that at about 11.00 pm on Tuesday, eight to 10 PLFI rebels entered Karika village.

“On coming to know about the Naxal’s arrival in the village, the information spread like a wildfire leading them to mobilise support for driving away them from the village.  Soon a large number of villagers including women assembled at a field and started moving towards the place where the rebels were anchored. On taking notice of the belligerent villagers, the rebels started fleeing the village, but while doing so they resorted to indiscriminate firing on the approaching mob of villagers.  One of the shots fired by the rebels had hit the woman, ” narrated Ashutosh Shekhar while talking to lagatar24.com.

The police superintendent said the bullet had hit the victim’s right leg, causing it to damage considerably. He said the injured is, however, out of danger at the RIMS.

Moreover, the PLFI which is outlawed in Jharkhand like the Naxal outfit CPI-Maoist has a considerable influence in West Singhbhum as well as in the adjoining Khunti district.

“Though a woman was injured in the firing by the PLFI rebels, it is a good thing to happen for the police and paramilitary forces that the same villagers in Bandhgao who used to earlier provide shelter to the Naxal outfits have now started standing against the rebels,” observed a police officer while.
