New Delhi, Oct 2: India’s men’s team continued their winning streak in the ongoing World Team Table Tennis Championships, defeating Germany in the second match of Group 2 of the tournament on Sunday. India beat their opponents 3-1 in the game.
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran started in India against Germany’s Benedikt Duda. Sathiyan got off to a bad start, losing his first two sets 11-13 4-11. However, the top-ranked Indian TT player kept his cool and returned to the game with a straight 11-8, 11-4 win for his sets. With a score of 2:2, he secured a hard-fought final set with his 11:9. At this point, India were leading 1-0.
India’s Harmeet Desai faced Qiu Dang in the next match. Desai recovered and won a hard-fought third set before losing his first two sets. He lost the final set, losing his 1-3 (7-11, 9-11, 13-11, 3-11) to Dunn.
Germany got back into the game with her 1-1.
Manabi Tucker was next to India, hoping to turn this deadlock in his country’s favor against Ricardo Walther. Thakkar got off to a great start. He won the first set his 13-11 and then losing the next set he lost 6-11. Tucker kept his cool and won the next two sets 11-8, 12-10 to close out the match 3-1.
After this win, India again took his 2–1 lead.
Gnanasekaran in his fourth game against Dang which was crucial as he defeated Desai. Gnanasekaran started with a straight set loss 10-12, 7-11. He made an amazing comeback in his next three sets, winning 11-8, 11-8, 11-9. The whole game was high intensity and what he won was Gnanasekaran’s speed and scoring.
With this victory, India won the game with his 3-1.
On Saturday, India’s men’s table tennis team kicked off their season successfully at the championship in China by defeating Uzbekistan in the tournament’s first Group 2 match. Team India beat their opponents and won cleanly 3-0.
The World Team Table Tennis Championships will begin in China on his September 30th and will run until October 9th.
