Motihari: The world’s largest Shiva Lingam has been ceremonially installed at the under-construction Virat Ramayan Temple in Bihar’s Motihari district, drawing widespread devotion and marking a major religious milestone attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha.

Grand Vedic Rituals and Floral Shower

The massive Shiva Lingam was installed amid full Vedic chanting and traditional rituals. Two heavy-duty cranes were used to place the enormous structure at the temple site in Kathwaliya. The ceremony featured music, drum beats and a helicopter showering flower petals over the Lingam, creating a spectacle that captivated devotees from Bihar and across the country.

Leaders Attend and Highlight Development Potential

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, participated in the installation ceremony, performed prayers and reviewed the temple’s construction progress. The Chief Minister said the Virat Ramayan Temple would accelerate regional development and emerge as an important centre for religious tourism.

Temple Vision and Unique Features

Mahavir Mandir Nyas secretary Shayan Kunal and his wife, MP Shambhavi Choudhary, performed the role of principal hosts during the rituals. Shayan Kunal said the temple was his father’s dream, now gradually becoming reality, and is expected to be completed by 2030. The Shiva Lingam, carved from black granite, was brought from Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu after a 45-day journey. It stands 33 feet tall and weighs approximately 210 tonnes, making it the largest of its kind in the world.
