New Delhi, Jan 21: The wrestlers who have been demonstrating against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), announced that they would end their protest.
The WFI president will resign from his position till the investigation into the claims against him is finished, according to Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. It’s anticipated that the probe would last four weeks.
Anurag Thakur stated at a press conference held late on Friday night that he had spoken with the protesting wrestlers for seven hours. He claimed that each of them had made accusations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
“We ensure that answers will be sought and action will be taken,” said the sports minister, announcing that an ‘oversight committee’ will be set up by the ministry to look into the case involving the WFI.
The committee’s investigation will be finished in four weeks, during which time the WFI president will cooperate with the probe while resigning from his daily duties. To look into the claims of sexual harassment made against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the IOA earlier assembled a seven-person committee.
Bronze medalist Bajrang Punia said, “We are sure that there will be a fair investigation. In the past too, the players have received threats from the WFI head.”
