Jamshedpur, Sept 4: XLRI Jamshedpur won the 17th Annual E-PARCC Teaching Case and Simulation Competition award, 2023, organized by Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, New York, US.

The teaching case titled “GEWEL: Sustainable Solution for Empowering Girls and Women in Zambia,” co-authored by Prof. Trilochan Tripathy and Benudhar Sahu, was declared the 1st place winner of the Glendel E. and Alice D. Wright Prize Fund for Conflict and Collaboration Case Studies in International Development.

The winning case was registered and developed in XLRI Case Research and Simulation Development Centre (XL-CRSDC), which is a case repository of XLRI.

The case highlighted  the collaborative strategy employed by World Bank to bring together multiple stakeholders like private, public, and international agencies to implement the GEWEL Project in Zambia.

Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment and Livelihoods (GEWEL) is a cash-plus social  protection program that aims to empower girls and women coming from the poorest households of Zambia.

“Winning this prestigious award motivates us to write more cases on the concept of ‘collaboration’ that has gained relevance in the contemporary world. It helps individuals and organizations to work collectively to solve common problems which can’t be managed single-handedly by any government or private entity. Our efforts in writing cases, particularly on public policy related issues, is also aligned with XLRI’s commitment to work for inclusiveness and greater good of the society,” said Prof. Tripathy, faculty of finance in XLRI.

The case enumerated the formal, consensus-oriented, deliberative collective decision-making processes that were implemented in the GEWEL project designed to empower women and girl child of Zambia.

The Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC) at the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is a multi-faceted, interdisciplinary research centre that advances both theory and practice to resolve disputes and foster cooperation in a range of international development contexts. E-PARCC, a project of the Collaborative Governance Initiative, is an online repository that provides academicians effective and innovative teaching cases and simulations to engage students in solving complex problems and strategizing collaborative solutions.
